Here’s what you need to know…

The name’s Nick, well the name I’ve chosen for myself as my given name is a tongue twister, Asian names, you know.. The blog charts my daily travails, musings and general bullshittery which I am too embarrassed to share with people I know.

A dilettante, for those not in the know is a person who cultivates an area of interest without real knowledge or commitment. Which describes me to a tee. I never seem to be able to remain interested in just one specific area, or as I like to think of it, I am a jack of all trades, master of none. My excuse is, I am trying to find myself. Except that I’ve been trying to find myself for the past 10 years. I never seem to be able to, it’s always in the last place you look.

Some of my interests include: Fashion, Baking (badly), Arthouse movies which make me cry, Foreign films which make me cry, any movies really which make me cry, crying in completely inappropriate places like on the street, love- the pursuit of, dancing-only on my own or in public when extremely intoxicated, finding a rich husband… That last one was meant to be private…

I am a ‘need to know’ gay man whose parents once said they would rather have no son than a gay one. So I moved a continent away from them. And they call me and nag me about my lack of a wife and my decidedly shitty career prospects.

I also have terrible luck with the men’s.. Somehow, I never seem to be able to find one that sticks. Believe me, I’ve tried. From online dating to speed dating, I’ve done it all and have some stories to tell, which I used to document in my other blog, fibreisgood.wordpress.com. Some cross promotion there…

I’ve decided to start a new blog because the entries in the old one were starting to sound so maudlin and depressing that one of my friends who reads the blog contemplated contacting a suicide helpline on my behalf. Also, this new blog is a reaction to a very recent, very raw career related crisis.

I am on Facebook, Nick Tan, the one with the profile picture of an ugly pretty dog, which I just joined after a long absence due to a vengeful ex and his posse of lesbian friends. Note to self: Never mess with gay men who have predominantly lesbian and drag queen friends, they are way harsh. So feel free to add me or send me messages there. You are also free to comment on my pieces here.. Do what you like, it’s a free country…

I don’t tweet or Instagram because I am old and that shit is for the youngsters. I may someday decide to tweet if and when I can limit my musings to a haiku-like 140 characters. Hint: Hell will freeze over first before that happens.

So read on and discover what my fabulously empty, frivolous life feels like. And what a gay Asian man thinks about; FYI-not cock on a daily basis, some of the time, yes, although as Liberace said, ‘too much of a good thing is fabulous’

Aww, thank you so much. I love your blog too, going to be fun reading through your entries.. And to continue our fascinating conversation about drag queens, the best queens seem to be able to hide their discomfort by being absolutely bitchy. Not that I am saying all drag queens are bitchy.. Any drag queens reading this, I didn’t mean it.. And I don’t live in Australia… Don’t impale me with your stilettos.. 🙂

Thanks so much. I am having the best time reading people’s blogs because I love being able to observe and “hear” about their experiences.

I have actually met some really nice Queens but I think a great deal of them can be bitchy because they simply can be. I think perhaps it has something to do with being “someone else” – and they do believe they are Beyonce, or Sasha Fierce or Yonce HAHAHAHA.

Yeah, it’s an act they put on… And no way can they ever be as fierce as Yonce… 🙂

I do enjoy reading blogs as well, it’s a good way to live vicariously… 🙂
